ABOUT THE ROAD SHOW:
THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME ROAD SHOW consists of individual elements that can be staged separately or together. This leaflet provides a menu from which customers may select elements that best suits their requirements.
The elements comprise of:
A selection of talks is available and include(s) subjects as diverse as ‘Bullets, Bombs and Bayonets: The Weapons of Trench Warfare’ to ‘Feeding Tommy: Rations and Cooking on The Western Front’ . A full list of talks is available on our Website. If you require a bespoke subject please contact us.
We have a wide range of both original and reproduction First World War Soldiers equipment. This includes everyday as well as specialist equipment. We use some weapons all of which are deactivated and safe.
As part of any event we have a series of pull up display panels. these provide information for visitors about the Great War in general and the Battle of the Somme specifically.
We provide skilled and knowledgeable male and female presenters, correctly dressed in accurate period uniform. Our interpreters interact with visitors.
We have a fully equipped Great War tented medical unit that is is interpreted by uniformed medical staff. This area can be presented as a standard ' behind the lines' camp site.
Our panel of military history experts are available to answer visitor queries relating to questions about the military service of their relations and offer advice on any military artefacts brought in. We have supported a number of national and regional organisations with the Military Ancestry Road Show as well as the BBC.
The team includes experts on the filming and photography of the Battle of the Somme and we can provide a narration to accompany a screening of all or selected parts of the original 1916 film.
The growing public interest in genealogy often leads to a direct contact with the major conflicts of the 20th century as well as with conflicts that occurred before and after this. When searching for relatives many will have a link with military service and related occupations or have been directly involved in some way with these conflicts.
This interest is highlighted by television series such as a ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ and ‘Find my Past’ and the related magazines that can be found on newsagents shelves. There is a hunger for history, especially when it relates to genealogy and in particular family history.
Many families wish to find a way in which they can connect relatives with the events of the conflicts they were involved with. This may be in the Army, The Royal, Merchant Marine, Navy or Royal Flying Corps/Royal Air Force and may also be on the Home front. They may even have letters, photographs or artefacts stored in boxes, files or envelopes. Few people know how to take the first step to link their family with the past and how to identify and understand objects, artefacts, curios and souvenirs passed down through generations’ A way to do this is to seek help from BfP specialists and Experts.

subject, due to its often technical nature and the culture of military tradition
